What is the Game?
LaserHack is a 2D maze tech demo made for PC.
Control a specially made government program as you attempt to hack and steal information from your enemies. Navigate mazes set up with security lasers and rogue programs set in place to stop you!
This game was made as a prototype for a college course. Within this course we chose one concept created during the semester, and this was my choice.
My Role:
As the solo developer, I was tasked with all angles of development. The hardest issues that came from this game were the programming aspects. As I was still new to game development at the creation of this, I found that the logic behind the programming was very hard to manage. By the end of the project’s lifespan, the base concept was created successfully, but there were many features outlined in the documentation that never made it into the final product.
Aside from the programming, the other major hurdle for this demo was finding art assets. As a designer who can’t create art assets reliably, I had to use a lot of clipart, and other sources of free assets. However, I was able to do some slight editing to the original so the assets fit the overall art direction of the game.
Although the demo is small in execution, I do feel as though this particular project has the ability to be expanded upon and I have plans to re-open the project in order to fully create the original concept that I had outlined in documentation.
