Till Death

Fall 2020

What is the Game?

Till Death is a choice driven interactive narrative for PC. The world is coming to an inescapable doom, and you must lead different people down a pathway you best see fit before the end comes. Using different choices, you will decide how your character turns out.

The intent behind this project was to create an overarching story with multiple viewpoints for the player to interact with and find different outcomes, as well as encourage multiple playthroughs to see different pathways.

My Role

As the solo creator for Till Death, my role was to go from concept to implementation for each aspect.

For the narrative, I came up with the different character stories and pathways that characters go through, as well as making sure the player knew the gravity of the situation they were in. I started with the world story, and came up with the idea that the world would be completely destroyed. This made it absolutely clear that the player knew that everything would be destroyed at the end of the playthrough, which may change the types of changes they made. Once the world story was set, I worked on the characters. I wanted the characters to feel real, and make the choices they had to make go against their overall character arc.

Having made the project in Twine, I was also tasked with the programming side of making sure the game ran smoothly and the logic was sound. While Twine’s programming isn’t as complicated as other forms of programming, it was still a difficult to make sure the programming behind each choice worked as intended and the player wouldn’t be stuck.
